Applications

Mecconti microbial strains (freeze-dried microorganisms for qualitative or quantitative tests,) are ideal for:

quality control in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry
fertility tests and selectivity of culture media for microbiology
growth promotion testing
challenge test on disinfectants and preservatives
identification test validations
antimicrobial efficacy testing, etc.

Properties

Mecconti microbial strains are characterized by:

lyophilized form: the microorganisms come in the form of freeze-dried pellets/balls, to be dissolved with the rehydrating solution provided
single - unit package: the primary packaging is single, a peculiarity that allows the freshness of the strains to be maintained for longer and to avoid contamination and waste
storage at 2–8 °C: the bacterial strains should be stored at 2-8°C
shelf life: Mecconti microbial strains have a shelf - life of approximately 12 months for titrated strains and 12-24 months for non-titrated ones

Formats

Mecconti microbial strains are available in non-titrated (qualitative or non-quantified) and titrated (quantitative or with known concentration) forms, derived from ATCC strains:

Titrated microorganisms: prepared at a known concentration, with a measured population and accompanied by a Certificate of Analysis indicating the microbial count. They are used for recovery tests, productivity tests, and quantitative inoculation, such as growth promotion tests and sterility tests
Non-titrated microorganisms: non-quantified preparations with a high microbial population, but without an exact concentration, with indication of a minimum concentration. They are ideal for quality control of culture media, fertility testing, antibiograms, and strain collection preparation

Quality control bacterial suspensions

Mecconti titrated microorganisms:

Freeze-dried microorganisms in the form of pellets which, when dissolved with the rehydrating solution supplied, give a suspension of known strength.

They are used for quantitative sowing, when it is necessary to know the number of UFC. Strains with known concentrations are ideal for fertility tests, selectivity tests, therefore growth promotion testing, challenge tests etc.

Available in three types:

Micropellet RT: 100-1000 CFU/pellet, in suspension equals 10-100 CFU/dose of 0.1 ml. EP compliant, e.g. growth promotion test
Micropellet RT10: 1000-10000 CFU/pellet, in suspension equals 10-100 CFU/dose of 0.1 ml. EP compliant, e.g. growth promotion test (large users)
Micropellet RTPlus: high count/pellet. Challenge test

Mecconti non-titrated microorganisms:

Freeze-dried microorganisms in pellet form. The pellet is located at the bottom of a tube with a reservoir cap to which a cotton swab (swab) is applied. The rehydrating liquid is contained in the reservoir cap and can be used to dissolve the pellets directly in the test tube. Alternatively, the pellet can be extracted and dissolved in a culture buffer or broth.

The population of qualitative strains is very high even if not quantified (in any case > 1000 CFU).

Available in two types:

MicroSwabs: 3 steps from the original collection. Ideal for fertility control, antibiogram etc.
MicroSwab Plus: 2 steps from the original collection.

Viable bacterial suspensions

Pure suspensions of viable microrganisms in Water for Injection.

Pure suspension of viable organism with a known population of ≤100 Colony Forming Units (CFUs)
Packaged in a vial with screw cap and septum for access with a syringe or pipette
