Pyrogen-free LAL test consumables

The bacterial endotoxin test is a delicate and sensitive analysis, based on an enzymatic cascade triggered by the reaction between bacterial endotoxins and the LAL reagent.

Some so-called interfering substances can stimulate or inhibit the enzymatic cascade, leading to skewed results.

For this reason, it is essential to perform the test using certified apyrogenic consumables, free of endotoxins and interfering substances.

For setting up the test, the following dedicated consumables are required:

LAL water (LRW)
Apyrogenic glassware
Apyrogenic plastics
Optionally, buffer solutions, acidic or basic

Apyrogenic Consumables for LAL Test

LAL Water (LRW)

LRW (LAL Reagent Water) is defined as the water suitable for the LAL test, both for reconstituting and preparing reagents and for diluting the product under analysis.

These are mainly small glass tubes used to perform the test with the gel-clot and kinetic methods, and slightly larger tubes for the serial dilutions of Standard Endotoxin. Apyrogenic pipettes are also used for dispensing LAL water and for preparing the serial dilutions. Finally, there are vials useful for sampling.

Apyrogenic Plastics

Includes containers and bottles, tips, pipettes, and tubes. When selecting these consumables, the type of plastic must be considered, as it can interfere with the LAL test, as well as the certified endotoxin content.

Buffer, Acidic, or Basic Solutions

In some cases, the characteristics of the product can affect the outcome of the LAL test, making it necessary to use buffer solutions for pH adjustment, elimination of interferences, etc.
