Dry incubators for biological indicators
Incubation of biological indicators for sterilization
At the end of the sterilization process, biological indicators must be incubated to verify whether bacterial growth has occurred, which would indicate failure of the sterilization.
Incubation must be carried out in microbiology incubators, which may also be very compact in size, such as dedicated well-type incubators.
- Indicators in strips, threads, discs, or other carriers: must be removed from their pouch and incubated in tubes containing TSB
- Self-contained indicators, glass ampoules, or SCBIs: already contain the culture medium, must be activated if required and incubated without further handling
