Microorganism cryo-Preservation System
To facilitate long-term and low-temperature conservation of microbial strains, the original Protect system can be used, consisting of porous ceramic beads immersed in a cryo-preservative solution, developed to nourish the cells in suspension and prevent freezing damage.
The microorganisms, brought into contact with the beads, adhere firmly to them and are then placed in the freezer. Each test tube allows you to obtain approximately 20 aliquots of microorganisms, which in themselves do not constitute one passage. The preparation is very simple: take a thick scoop of the microbial strain and introduce it into the Protect tube, shake well so that the microorganisms adhere to the beads, remove the cryo-preservative liquid and place it in the freezer at -20°C, -70°C, -80°C or in liquid nitrogen.
In a short time, a well-identifiable stock library is obtained thanks to the different colors of the cryovial caps and beads. The recovery of the microorganism is equally simple: a cryovial is extracted from the freezer, placing it in the appropriate cryoblock to maintain the temperature, with the aid of a sterile needle a bead is taken, which is directly streaked onto an agar medium or inserted into a culture broth and then incubated.
